PORT DICKSON, June 13 – MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel wants more books on eminent personalities in the Indian community to be published to be used as reference by the young generation.
He said this was important to ensure their deeds and contributions for the community, MIC and the country would not be forgotten.
“With the publication of such books, it gives an opportunity for the future generation to appreciate the deeds and contributions by these people,” he told reporters after launching a book on Datuk K. Pathmanaban here Thursday.
Palanivel, who is Natural Resources and Environment Minister, said he hoped more local writers would come forward to produce more books as reference, as well as reading material, for the general masses and also students. The 368-page book on Pathmanaban, which is in Tamil, is written by Makkal Osai Sunday editor, P. Rajendran. It is sold for RM50 per copy.
Pathmanaban, who died at the age of 63 in 2001, was Teluk Kemang Member of Parliament between 1974 and 1986, MIC vice-president in 1987 and held the post of Labour and Manpower Ministry parliamentary secretary, Deputy Minister of Labour and Manpower and health deputy Minister between 1976 and 1990.
