Interview session with Khairy Jamaluddin on his thoughts on young people in politics. IZZRAFIQ ALIAS / The Star.KLANG, July 8 — The continuous internal friction in Pakatan Rakyat (PR) in the Selangor state government is giving a clear message that the coalition is not ready to rule the country, said Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin (pic).

He said the leadership crisis which was still not resolved till now symbolised the incapability of the party to administer competently and the leadership infighting showed their administration was weak.

“It gives a clear picture that PR is still unable to rule as the Selangor Menteri Besar crisis has protracted for more than a year. The present Menteri Besar does not have the support of his party’s leaders causing water crisis and others, so what is the message they are trying to present to the people?” he told reporters after a breaking of fast and presentation of contributions to orphans organised by Selangor Umno Youth here
tonight.

Khairy was commenting on the crisis over the post of the Selangor Menteri Besar held by Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as he was facing pressure from the Pakatan Rakyat leadership to resign.

Khairy said the crisis over the post was a big slap to the top leadership of Pakatan Rakyat as it was seen as incapable of assuring the people that they could select a menteri besar acceptable by many.

In this regard, when asked to comment on the statement of Gelang Patah member of Parliament, Lim Kit Siang in trying to manipulate the Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s reminder on racial unity, Khairy said the opposition leader was being malicious.

He said Kit Siang’s action was akin to covering his own weakness when in fact the fragility of national unity now was contributed by DAP.

“DAP has been making many statements to hurt the feelings of bumiputras in the country and he himself could not control the anger of the people as he failed to reign in statements made by his party members,” he said.

Khairy added that the reminder of the DPM should be seen in a positive light as it was not impossible for the 1969 May 13 to repeat itseld if national unity did not continue to be harmonised by all levels of society.
