KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 — The police have nabbed 424 people and seized nearly RM500,000 under an operation, ‘Ops Soga 5’ on the 2014 World Cup football gambling syndicates.
Bets have been estimated at RM120 million.
Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said similar operations were also conducted in several countries, including Vietnam, Hong Kong, Macau, China, Singapore and Thailand, two weeks before the championships began, until the final.
“The police detained 424 local residents, including 10 women and confiscated RM450,000, including S$11,698.
Apart from that, the police also seized 64 units of laptops, 49 desktop computers, 377 mobile phones, 43 iPad and 12 units of servers in various raids,” he told a press conference here today.
