BUKIT MERTAJAM, Aug 14 – “We are not very healthy and too old to make a long journey,” said Jagjit Kaur, mother of Sanjid Singh Sandhu, a steward onboard the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) plane which crashed in eastern Ukraine last Jagjit, 73, said she and her husband Jijar Singh, 71, and her family decided that his wife (Tan Bee Geok) and sister would go to Amsterdam, the Netherlands to find out further developments on the confirmation of the remains of the MH17 crash victims.
“At the moment, we don’t know when they will be leaving as we have not received any information on this yet.”Usually, MAS will pass on any information to Sanjid’s wife, who is also a stewardess with the airlines,” she told Bernama when met at her house in Taman Selamat, here, today.
Sanjid Singh was among the 15 crew members of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 that crashed in Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, near the Russian border, on July 17. The plane which was on its way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur is believed to have been shot down by a missile over the troubled country, but so far no party has claimed responsibility.
Jagjit said the family had not been informed yet whether Sanjid’s remains had been identified but understood that some of his personal belongings had been found.She said the family had conducted several rituals, including prayers for “I as Sanjid’s mother believe he is at peace there and we hope everything goes on smoothly,” she said, but declined to tell where the funeral of the younger of two brothers would be held.
Jagjit also hoped the media would not bother the family who were trying to come to terms with what happened to her son.Sanjid who had served as a MAS steward for the past 19 years lived in Selangor and had a 10-year-old son, Hans Singh Sandhu.
