MH17: Ashes of couple placed at Memorial Centre

KUALA LUMPUR, October 3- The cremation ashes of two Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH17 tragedy victims brought home Friday have been placed at the Nirvana Memorial Centre in Sungai Besi for day-long funeral rites.

The urns containing the ashes of Liew Yau Chee, who was Gerakan Kota Damansara Youth deputy chief, and his wife, Lee Kiah Yeen, draped in the Malaysian flag, were brought to the centre at about 10 am, accompanied by about 20 relatives and friends.

The centre’s deputy general manager, Teh Khai Lin, said the ashes would be interred at the Nirvana Memorial Centre in Shah Alam at 10 am Saturday upon the request of the next-of-kin.

Selangor legislative assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh represented the menteri besar in paying last respects.Liew and Lee leave behind two sons, aged two and 10, and a daughter, aged eight.The couple had gone to Germany on business and had taken Flight MH17 to return to Malaysia.

Flight MH17 crashed in eastern Ukraine on July 17 as it was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 283 passengers and 15 crew on board. The Boeing 777-200 aircraft was shot down over the troubled country.Forty-four Malaysians, one of them of dual nationality, were on the ill-fated aircraft. The remains of 42 of the Malaysian victims have been brought home.
