GEORGE TOWN, Feb 21- The Penang state government will make the Transport Masterplan study available for the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) in order to ease traffic problems in the state. Penang Local Government and Traffic Management Committee Chairman Chow Kon Yeow(Pic) said SPAD was aware of the Penang Transport Masterplan and the state
government was willing to work together to tackle the state’s transport issue.
“A national study can never be as in-depth as a state study. Our study was very in-depth and they (SPAD) have invited the state economic planning unit (UPEN) to discuss and we are aware of that.
“We will make this Penang study available for SPAD to look at,” Chow said when asked to comment on SPAD’s move to start a study to prepare a development plan on the public transport system in Penang.
“We will work together to find a solution to our transport issue. The transport issue should not be a political issue,” Chow told reporters here today, after officiating the Gurney Paragon Topping Out ceremony.
He said SPAD was welcome to look at the Penang transport study and it would be good if some parts of the plans could be incorporated. Chow said out of the RM3.2 million Penang Transport Master Plan, RM1.5 million was contributed by the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) while RM1.7 million was by the state government.
