This was a follow up to the decision taken by a special meeting of PAS’s Central Committee earlier today which named Dr Wan Azizah and PKR deputy president Mohamad Azmin Ali as the party’s choices to replace current MB Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim .

Opposition chief and PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed at a media conference here tonight that he maintained his support for PKR’s decision to name Dr Wan Azizah as the candidate for MB.

Azmin, who was also present, also reiterated his support for Dr Wan Azizah as the candidate for the post of MB of Selangor saying it was in line with the statutory declarations signed by 30 Selangor assemblymen in stating their support for the president of PKR to be the new MB.

Also present were DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu. Pakatan Rakyat is made up of the DAP and PAS and has a two thirds majority in the 56-seat state assembly.

PAS, in at the special meeting, had also announced that it no longer backed the leadership of Abdul Khalid as MB.

However, at the same time PAS ordered the four executive councillors from the party to remain under the State government administration which is still headed by Abdul Khalid.

On Monday, Abdul Khalid said he had received the consent of the Sultan of Selangor to continue holding the post following his sacking from PKR and still received the support of the majority of the State Assembly members.

Following PAS withdrawing its backing for him, he issued a statement today that he would be updating Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor on the latest developments and to advise the ruler on the next steps that have to be taken.

The Sultan is currently overseas and will only be back on Aug 27.
