LONDON, Aug 20 — A Hindu temple believed to be the world’s first eco-temple has opened in northwest London, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
The 20-million pounds (US$33.30 million) Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Temple in Kingsbury combines traditional Indian architecture and intricate carvings with green technology featuring solar panels on the roof and a rainwater harvesting system.
The temple opened on Tuesday in a ceremony presided over by global spiritual leader Acharya Swamishree Maharaj.
London mayor Boris Johnson described the new temple and its facilities as “stunning and impressive”.
A six-day festival featuring evening music and dance shows and street parades will be held to celebrate the new temple.
