JAKARTA, October 3 – Indonesia’s president-elect Joko Widodo on Thursday tendered his resignation as Jakarta governor in a letter to members of Jakarta’s Legislative Council (DPRD).
Joko or more popularly known as Jokowi will be replaced by current deputy governor Basuki Tjahaya Purnama, Indonesia’s Antara news agency reported.The Legislative Council was due to hold an assembly meeting on Thursday to discuss Jokowi’s resignation as governor of Jakarta.
Joko will be inaugurated as Indonesia’s seventh president on Oct 20.
