According to a statement issued by the State Security Council (MKN) here, four districts in Terengganu were hit by floods up to 9 am on Wednesday.
It said the affected districts at present were Kuala Terengganu, Hulu Terengganu, Setiu and Marang.
Kuala Terengganu was the worst hit with 1,575 people from 407 families currently being placed at 10 evacuation centres, comprising schools and civic centres.
In Hulu Terengganu, 41 people from 13 families are being placed at the Bukit Kolam community hall, Kampung Kemat Umno building and Cenerong Lebam mosque.
In Setiu, 54 people (15 families) are moved to three centres, namely Kampung Sungai Lerek community hall, Kampung Sungai Pinang mosque and Rhu Tapai community hall while in Marang 642 victims (154 families) are placed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Rhu Sila and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Payong.
Meanwhile, Terengganu (MKN) acting secretary Roslina Ngah said all the main rivers in the state were still at normal level early today except for Sungai Nerus in Kampung Langkap which recorded 22.54 metres.
She said it had breached the dangerous level of 1.04m but had showed signs of receding.
Two rivers recorded a reading that breached the warning level, namely Sungai Chalok at Jambatan Chalok of 8.22m by exceeding the warning level by 0.55m with signs of receding.
“Another river that breached the warning level is the Sungai Marang at Jambatan Pengkalan Berangan which recorded a reading of 2.57m exceeding the warning level by 0.27m and shows signs of rising,” she said in a statement here.
She said two rivers that breached the warning levels with a downward trend were Sungai Besut at Jambatan Keruak, which recorded a reading of 33.47m and Sungai Setiu in Kampung Besut, which recorded a reading of 16.62m.
Sungai Marang at Jambatan Pengkalan Berangan also recorded a reading of 22m.
