March 4, 2013- Here is another indicator that Apple Inc’s interest in India is increasing. Three months after it finally launched iTunes in India, the company’s popular Apple TV media streamer will become available in India from early next week. At an MRP of Rs 8,295, it has a good chance of doing well in the market and take on products like the Amkette EvoTV and WD TV Live.

But Apple TV has taken a long time coming to India, over five years to be precise. However, it will now be able to stream Indian content, mostly what is available on iTunes. “SD rentals start from just Rs 80, and HD rentals start from Rs 120. You have 30 days to start watching, and once you begin, you can watch as many times as you want in 48 hours,” says the Apple TV web page which has been customized for India.

Apple TV is a smart little box that lets you stream content, either through a broadband network or wirelessly, to any television. It can also play from Apple devices using Airplay or even mirror the screens on an iPhone or iPad. Plus, along with the remote you can also use the Remote app on these devices for controls. The device also syncs to your iCloud account and a host of other services like YouTube, Flickr and Vimeo so that you have something to watch all the time.

Now, however, the Indian customer has a lot of choices in media streamers and players that let you access and play all sorts of content on a television. In fact, Android-based devices like the EvoTV and the Akai Smartbox also allow them to download and use apps on the television.
