Mumbai, March 24 – The front row filled up faster than one could imagine at the end of Day 3. And how could it not when Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s wife Gauri Khan was presenting her first ever collection of resort wear and saris for designer brand Satya Paul’s 30th anniversary.
As expected, the venue was star-studded with names like Karan Johar, Ali Fazal, Malaika Arora Khan, Adhuna Akhtar, Tanisha Mukherjee, Tamannaah Bhatia, Dabboo Ratnani and Mandira Bedi, among others, applauding the tropical theme collection.
The line ranged from satin georgette saris with sexy crossover halter blouses to beachwear in cotton, silk, chiffon, organza and tulle. The collection also included bikini tops in metallic tints, besides beach dresses, tops and skirts. Glittering sequins-work added a touch of Bollywood to the ensembles.
The day also saw some interesting shows by up and coming designers, most of them from Delhi. Dhruv Kapoor brought back his laid-back and somewhat sporty sensibilities to the runway with a collection of jackets, skirts with tassels and net details, tops with plastic detailing and other boxy silhouettes with structured cuts, unfinished edges and vinyl foil accents.
In contrast, Sahil Aneja presented a capsule collection of smart menswear with structured suits and coats that boasted a youthful appeal. Jewellery label ‘Valliyan by Nitya’ proved ‘all that glitters is gold’, with semi-precious stones added on outfits for extra glamour.
Inspired by the galactic world and Princess Leia from Star Wars, the futuristic collection included body harnesses, cuffs, star burst tiaras, ear cuffs, palm bracelets, danglers, maang tikkas, tiara-cumheadbands and necklace chokers. An interesting element of styling were rings placed on nose bridges.
Nikhil Thampi’s tribute to Bollywood was also dipped in enough glimmer to last the evening. Songs like Tip Tip Barsa Paani, Saat Samundar, Jhuma Chumma and Muquabala set the mood for the bright and metallic toned bikini tops, jackets, gowns, jumpsuits and maxi dresses.
Soha Ali Khan, meanwhile, walked the ramp for designer Babita Malkani in a swirling black-and-white printed long skirt and racerback choli while celebrity hairstylist Adhuna Akhtar, wife of Farhan Akhtar, kept it cool in a pink dress with a fedora and black brogues for Asmita Marwa.
