SINGAPORE, March 25 – Many Singaporeans today made their way to Parliament House where the body of former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew is lying in state before the funeral on Sunday.
The people began gathering there as early as 10 am when they were allowed to pay their last respects to a man regarded as a prominent and influential leader of the 20th century not only in Asia but globally.
The casket was carried on a ceremonial gun carriage from Sri Temasek, the office residence of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the son of Kuan Yew, to Parliament House in a foot procession.
The procession was led by Hsien Loong and his wife Ho Ching. Also in the procession were Kuan Yew’s daughter Wei Ling; the other son Hsien Yang and his wife Lim Suet Fern and seven grandchildren.
Thousands of people lined the roads to bid farewell to their late leader as the procession made its way to Parliament House.
Channel News Asia, the local television channel, carried a live broadcast of the procession.
