Govt Implements many project for benefit of rakyat – Najib

NajibKUALA LUMPUR, April 1o – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the government has implemented various projects that benefited the rakyat (people).

“We have done a lot. We have recorded them in books, phamplets, newspapers and others. To say that we have not done enough is not true.

“In fact, we have done so much including the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project and others. The latest I just launched the Pan Borneo Highway which the Sarawakians have been waiting for 50 years. The implementation began today,” he said in an interview on a Special Edition of TV3’s Soal Jawab (Question and Answer) programme that was aired tonight.

He was answering a question posed by the programme’s host Hamdan Ahmir on allegation that Najib’s administration did not undertake any project that really benefited the rakyat except for the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M).

The government has created more than 1.5 million jobs and provide opportunties to the rakyat to improve themselves through various programmes, including entrepreneurship training for traders and assistance to the small and medium industries.

Najib said water and electricity supplies as well as roads especially in Sabah and Sarawak were also provided by the government for the benefit of the rakyat.

Apart from that, attention was also given to people’s housing projects with the government’s commitment to build one million affordable houses within five years, said Najib.

Touching on other matters, the prime minister said cooperation between the federal and state governments need to be enhanced for the reconstruction of flood victims’ homes especially those concerning land matters.

“Land is under state jurisdiction. We can disburse financial allocation if we have land to build new houses.

“Actually I’m not that happy. I think we can do more. I think (the cooperation) can be enhanced,” he said.

Commenting on other successes achieved by the nation, Najib said Malaysia had achieved economic growth of six per cent last year, among the highest in Southeast Asia.

“Apart from that the Gross National Income (GNI) recorded an increase of 47 per cent from 2009 till 2014,” said, Najib who considered the rate as very high.
