ALOR GAJAH, March 5 – The majority of youth in Malacca support the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, according to findings of a research by two universities. The study conducted by the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia (UTeM) Malacca interviewed 2,700 respondents, aged between 21 and 40.
UiTM researcher Prof Madya Dr Roaimah Omar said the survey was aimed at getting feedback of young voters on the leadership of the prime minister and the Melaka chief minister pertaining to the outcome of programmes implemented for the country and state.
He said the response from young voters, divided into race, recorded not much different whereby, Malay youths were the highest at 84.5 per cent, followed by 83 per cent (Indian) and 81.5 per cent (Chinese), in supporting the prime minister. Roaimah said this at a press conference at UTeM here today. Also present were Malacca UiTM Rector Prof Madya Dr Mohd Adnan Hashim and UTeM lecturer Prof Madya Dr Izaidin Abdul Majid.
“Among the reasons for the high rating may be due to the various implementation of provisions for young people in the 2013 Budget,” said Roaimah, citing the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (which also involves a single payment assistance of RM250 for singles), Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia People’s and the prime minister’s active involvement in the new media. He said the study also showed the youth supported the leadership of Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam and the state’s development under his administration.
