“This is because the accusation is baseless and very serious with the evil intention of damaging Umno’s image, reputation and credibility,” he said.

He said the notice, issued by the party’s legal adviser Messrs Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak, gave Tian Chua seven days to withdraw his remarks and apologise unconditionally to Umno.

“He is also required to pay damages for tarnishing Umno’s reputation and costs incurred by Umno in this case,” Tengku Adnan said.

He said the notice was issued in relation to Tian Chua’s defamatory words which appeared on KeadilanDaily.com on March 1 titled “Shooting Incident in Lahad Datu Umno’s Planned Conspiracy – Tian”.

Tengku Adnan said the Batu MP’s statement was to mean that Umno had planned the armed intrusion incident in Lahad Datu and that it had conspired with the Sulu sultanate group’s fighters and had deliberately wanted to create fear among the people through the incident.

Police report

Meanwhile, Tian Chu who has been receiving threats via SMS and the telephone has lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

He said the posting of his mobile phone number on several blogs yesterday resulted in him receiving thousands of SMS texts that were defamatory and threatening.

Tian Chua said he lodged the police report also because of the dangerous accusation against him that he had belittled and insulted the country’s security forces.

He denied issuing such a statement about the security forces.
