TAWAU, March 7- Another fund has been set up for the families of the policemen killed in the skirmishes with armed intruders in Lahad Datu and Semporna. The setting up of “Tabung Wira Lahad Datu dan Semporna” was announced by
Kalabakan Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Abdul Ghapur Salleh(Pic) here last night.
“The fund will facilitate the handing over of donations to the families of the slain policemen,” he told reporters.
Abdul Ghapur said collection boxes for the fund would also be set up at the office of the Tawau Municipal Council and the Tawau district police headquarters. He made a personal donation of RM5,000 to the fund.
Eight policemen were killed in two skirmishes with the armed intruders in Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu, and Kampung Simunul, Semporna, on March 1 and 2. Eighteen of the intruders were also killed in the gun battles. Security forces have launched an operation to flush out the terrorists.
