Kuala Lumpur, June 23 – The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has recognised the 2009 CWC in line with the Kuala Lumpur High Court decision granted on June 15th and has further given extension of time for the 2009 CWC to hold the party elections for all positions.
In announcing this, MIC Acting President Dato Seri Dr S.Subramaniam said that the MIC has now until October this year to complete the elections and confirmed having received a letter from RoS to that effect. He was speaking to reporters after attending the Health Ministry’s “buka puasa” dinner for the media in Kuala Lumpur.
Dr Subra also showed to the reporters a copy of the letter from RoS. “We had written to to RoS seeking for the extension” Subra explained.
“The branch elections scheduled to be held on 10th July onward will proceed as planned irrespective of the court cases. We will deal with the court case decisions as they come.” he said when replying to a question from a reporter.
Dr Subra also confirmed the decision by more that 2,758 branch chairmen who gathered on 21st June to declare that former President Dato Seri G.Palanivel and four others have lost their membership in MIC.
Subra clarified that the special assembly and the 2009 CWC did not expel anyone from MIC but merely interpreted Clause 91 of the MIC Constitution to say that Palanivel and four others who joined him in filing a case on MIC without CWC approval or decision have lost their respective memberships in the party.
