Taipei, June 28 – Taiwanese carry young man suffering from burns to an ambulance while a man looks after another injured at the Formosa Fun Coast park in the Bali District of New Taipei City, northern Taiwan, yesterday.
More than 500 young people suffered burns, some seriously, when a fire and explosion occurred during their Colour Play Asia party – in which participants throw colored powder at one another – at the Formosa park. Color Play derives from Colour Run which has spread to many countries in recent years.
The event, copied from India’s Holi Festival, is seen controversial in Taiwan because the coloured power is blamed to pollute the earth, pollutes the air, causes breathing difficulties, leaves clothes colored and causes eye irritation. Taiwan is seeking to ban ‘Colour Runs’ but organizers have been holding other Colour-themed events to encourage people to throw coloured power at one another.
