Sepang, December 12 – Embattled MIC President Dato Seri G.Palanivel returned from his overseas trip amidst grand reception provided by about 1,000 supporters who had gathered at KLIA to welcome him. Speaking to reporters, Palanivel also said that he would meet the party’s Deputy President and other CWC members next week before arriving at a final decision on the letter issued by ROS ordering the party to have a re-election.
The ROS letter also declared invalid the party elections held on the 30th of November last year.
Palanivel also indicated that the party may appeal against the ROS decision.
About 1,000 supporters had gathered at KLIA when the party President arrived today afternoon after 12-day official duties overseas. This is the first time in 4 years such a reception had been organized for him at the KLIA airport since he took over the party presidency in 2010.
Since yesterday, his supporters began the task of assembling his supporters to provide him a grand reception at a time of widespread calls demanding for his resignation as President over the ROS letter.
Among the MIC leaders present today at KLIA to receive Palanivel were current Vice Presidents Datuk S.Sothinathan and Datuk S.Balakrishnan, who won their positions at the party elections held last year. Their presence today sends strong signals that they will stick with the party President’s camp in the event the party opts for having a re-election as per the directive of the Registrar of Societies.
Palanivel, as he came out from the airport, appeared with disheveled hair and unshaven white beard. He mingled with his supporters for a while before leaving for home.
Party sources expect Palanivel to follow the directive of ROS to call for fresh elections but there is also pressure from his supporters to challenge the ROS decision.
