RAMASAMYGeorge Town – Penang Deputy Chief Minister and DAP leader has commented on the on-going MIC crisis. In a posting in his facebook page yesterday Prof Ramasamy wrote as follows-

“Crises and leadership squabbles are not something new to the MIC. Over the last 60 years or so, the party has moved from one crisis to another so much so that party has become delinked from the large Indian community. If it survives, it is because of its service or obsequious relationship with UMNO. Beyond this, the party is disgrace to Indians!

Dr-S.-SubramaniamOne more crisis in looming in the horizon, some have described it as death knell for the new MIC President, S. Subramaniam, the current Minister of Health. What is this new crisis?

The press conference by A. K. Ramalingam, a close confidante of the former MIC President, G. Palanivel, two days ago in Kuala Lumpur, revealed some sordid details about how the forces aligned with Subramaniam sought to undermine the legitimate leadership of Palanivel. In a more specific sense, Ramalingam has disclosed evidence that somewhere in early 2015, there was a conspiracy between certain persons aligned with Subramaniam and the ROS to undermine the leadership of Palanivel.

Ramalingam revealed details that letters/directives sent by ROS to the MIC President Palanivel were allegedly engineered by one of the current vice-presidents of the party through his lawyer. On February 19, 2015, the lawyer sent an email to the vice-president and on the same day he forwarded the email to the ROS officer assigned to investigate electoral discrepancies in the MIC. The same email was later sent to one Subramaniam Sathisvam at the MIC headquarters.

The ROS directive instructed Palanivel to call for new elections in the party as result of the serious discrepancies in the MIC elections of November 30, 2013, that took place in Malacca.

Ramalingam thinks that there are evidence to indicate that there was conspiracy between some MIC leaders associated with Subramaniam and certain ROS officers to undermine and bring down the legitimate leadership of Palanivel. In the press conference, he said that he would give Subramaniam 24 hours to deny that he was involved in the conspiracy failing which he would direct his men to lodge police reports throughout the country.

It is argued that it were the directives from the ROS that sealed the fate of the leadership of Palanivel and his men in the MIC. Due to the ROS directives that Palanivel lost his case against ROS in the high court, appeals court and later on appeal in the federal court.
