PENAMPANG, March 20 – The Penampang Umno Youth movement said it would fully support Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok(Pic) should he be chosen to defend the Penampang parliamentary seat. Its chief Hafiz Sua Abdullah described Dompok as firm and bold in speaking out for the people of Sabah, particularly the interest of the Kadazandusun Murut (KDM) community.
He noted that Dompok was instrumental in pushing for the Kadazandusun language to be taught in school and eventually at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), besides the establishment of the Sabah Native Court.
“He had also been one of the voices that called for a Royal Commission of Inquiry on Illegal Immigrants in Sabah.
“The announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the setting up of the RCI had long been awaited by the people of Sabah who want the the perennial issue to be resolved once and for all,” he told reporters here today.
According Hafiz, Dompok as the Plantation Industries and Commodities minister, had also helped smalltime farmers to progress in their rubber and cocoa endeavours. Hafiz also dismissed opposition claims that Penampang was no longer a safe seat for the Barisan Nasional (BN).
Describing the claims as a political gimmick, he urged the people in the constituency to unite and ensure a solid win for the BN candidate, in the next general election.
