DompokPENAMPANG: Voters in the Kadazandusun heartland were cautioned that a vote for Pakatan Rakyat is a vote for an unholy alliance.

United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) president Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, who is defending the Penampang parliamentary seat, said that if Pakatan comes into power, freedom of religion enjoyed today would be threatened.

“This is a secular country and there is a stone (Batu Sumpah) in Keningau that promises freedom of religion for Sabah and this must be allowed in the administration of the country,” he told a cheering crowd at Hongkod Koisaan on Monday night.

At a joint ceramah with Sabah United Party (PBS) president and Huguan Siou Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Dompok said with PAS being part of the Pakatan, there was a big chance that this country might become an Islamic state and hudud law imposed if the Opposition captured Putrajaya.

He said freedom of religion was enshrined in the Federal Constitution and people should think twice about this issue when casting their votes on May 5.

A Barisan government was still relevant and it should be allowed to continue its efforts to transform the country, he added.

Dompok said Barisan has listened to the wishes of Sabahans to have a Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate the illegal immigrant problem in the state.

“It is going smoothly and the first point in our manifesto is to execute the solutions of RCI to solve this grave problem,” he said.

Pairin, meanwhile, praised Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and urged the Kadazandusun community to stand behind his leadership.

He said all the Pakatan Rakyat party leaders – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahimof PKR, Abdul Hadi Awang and Nik Aziz Nik Mat of PAS and Lim Kit Siang – were clamouring to be Prime Minister.

“We do not know if Anwar will become Prime Minister if ever they manage to take over the government. The other leaders are also fighting to take the seat,” said Pairin.
