Amazon is looking to gain ground against rivals Netflix and will make its video streaming service worldwide as of December.
Amazon’s announcement that its new cars series, “The Grand Tour” with Jeremy Clarkson, is about to launch included a telling statement that the show will premiere in 200 countries and territories around the world. No further details were given.
Netflix boast that it has expanded to more than 190 countries around the world since the beginning of the year. But it has not yet cracked the huge Chinese market.
To date, Amazon’s video service has only been available in the United States, Britain, Germany, Austria and Japan.
The world’s largest online distributor offers the service as part of its Prime subscription package, but also to individuals.
To make the service more attractive to users, Netflix and Amazon are investing massively in in-house productions with well-known names such as Adam Sandler and Woody Allen.
For “The Grand Tour,” Amazon brought on Clarkson and co-presenters from the BBC show “Top Gear,” which has continued with a new team.
