PUTRAJAYA — Federal Court Judge Tan Sri Idrus Harun has been appointed as the new Attorney-General for a two-year term effective today (March 6).
The Prime Minister’s Office in a statement today said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had consented to the appointment in accordance with Clause (1) of Article 145 of the Federal Constitution.
According to the statement, His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had also approved Tan Sri Tommy Thomas’ application to terminate his service as Attorney-General effective Feb 28, 2020 in accordance with Clause (5) of Article 145 of the Federal Constitution.
“The government wishes to record its gratitude to Tan Sri Tommy Thomas for his service to the country during his tenure of office as Attorney-General,” said the statement.
