Azalina OthmanJOHOR BAHARU, April 21  – After having won the Pengerang parliamentary seat unopposed for two terms, Datuk Azalina Othman(pic) will finally face a challenge, not from one but two candidates. Her rivals in the three-cornered fight during the 13th General Election (GE13) are popular 80s singer, Dayangku Intan from PKR and independent candidate, Mohd Azaman Johari.

Asked about the challenge, Azalina, a former Cabinet Minister, said she was not afraid of the three-way contest since it showed the country practiced democracy.

“I am not worried as the Barisan Nasional has always been consistent in assisting the people in the area, unlike the opposition.

“Although they have brought up many issues, including the Rapid project at  Pengerang, we are confident that the people are wise to evaluate it, especially on the issue of jobs for the younger generation in the area,” she told Bernama.

She also expressed confidence that other than the Pengerang parliamentary seat, the Barisan Nasional candidates for the state seats of Tanjong Surat and Penawar the constituency will also do well. Meanwhile, Dayang or her real name, Tengku Intan Tengku Abdul Hamid said her intention to contest was purely to fight for the welfare of the people.
