PETALING JAYA: Two bus loads of alleged phantom voters have been detained by police in Klang after locals hurled stones and other objects at the buses.
Locals took action when they noticed the foreigners, mainly Bangladeshis, leaving the polling station in the SJK [C] Pandamaran (B) with ink stain on their fingers.
One of the damaged buses was later escorted by police to the Jalan Polis police station in Pandamaran when the bus driver reported the matter to a policeman on patrol.
DAP’s Klang candidate Klang Charles Santiago and his spokesperson, Jay Jay Denis, are currently at the station to obtain necessary information from the police.
They couldn’t confirm where the second bus orginated from, but according to locals, they pursued the bus in cars right up to the Port Klang police station.
Police then boarded both the buses to inspect the passengers, and sources confirmed that the majority were Bangladeshis but there were also Sabahans in the second bus.
Santiago in talks with police
Several Bangladeshis on board were allegedly injured from being hit by shards of broken glasss as a result of the stones and objects hurled earlier by the locals at the buses.
Police had earlier forced the lot to alight the bus and sent them back in soon after inspections were complete, it has since been an hour.
According to Denis, police have still not come up with a decision on what action is to be taken against them as Santiago is currenty in talks with them.
Both the buses had about 20-30 passengers on board who locals believe had already cast their votes due to ink stains on their fingers.
Police has also deployed a medical team to the police station to attend to those injured in the incident.
Santiago in the incumbent member of parliament for Klang and is defending his seat against MCA’s Teh Kim Poo.
