MUMBAI (Maharashtra) May 16- A jeweller has launched gold coins bearing ace cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s face and signature to mark this year’s ‘Akshaya Tritiya’, a day considered auspicious to buy gold.
Value mart Gold and Jewels in Maharashtra’s capital Mumbai launched a limited edition of the gold coins early this week, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
Some 100,000 gold coins weighing 10 grams each were released at an event in the presence of Tendulkar.
“I have had many golden moments on the field. There are some wonderful memories but this is something really different. Let me first wish everyone happy Akshaya Tritiya because it is an important day in the Hindu calendar,” said Tendulkar at the launch.
The 24 carat-gold coin is priced at Rs 34,000 (US$620.37) each and will be available on valuemartgold.com and leading jewellery stores across the country.
The jeweller has signed up Tendulkar as its brand ambassador for three years beginning this year.
