On cricket:

I know I can bat a bit, cricket has always been fun. It is important how you are able to execute your plan. Whether my body will be able to sustain the pressure. It was a sheer joy to see the team performance in Melbourne.

On being trained or a god’s gift:

We have to train, nothing comes easily. I remember when I was six-year-old, it was about enjoyment but serious chapter began at 11 when my brother took me to the stadium. I had to work hard, all successful people work hard, nothing comes easily, from a good player you can become a very good player.

To become a brilliant player it’s a god’s gift. Roger Federer is something special. I am a big tennis fan and when it comes to cricket. Cricket or for any profession, it has to be within you. Cricket started from my heart and then it reached my brain.

Best and worst thing about Sachin Tendulkar:

The best about being Sachin is I am badly in love with cricket, I enjoy playing and people enjoy me playing, how many people get to live their passion. Worst thing: From the age of 14 I had started travelling. There would be friends who would be watching movies.

I have missed my kids’ birthdays and a number of special occasions with my family. I had no option. Toughest thing was when my son didn’t speak to me. To stay away from my son was the most difficult thing.

Sachin as a dad: Want Arjun to be happy:

I always feel that for my son Arjun it is important for a sportsperson to be happy. I have told Arjun that don’t let that fire within you die. I want Arjun to be happy in life. I will support him in whatever he does. If he wants to play cricket I will support him but moreover I want him to be happy.

ABC of Sachin Tendulkar:

ABC of Sachin: Right values, balance between the excitement of success, nobody gets carried away. Most important is my passion and love for cricket.

Biggest regret in life:

One regret is when I didn’t take the award for Man of the Match in 2000 against Pakistan as I feel I should have controlled my emotions.

Life beyond cricket: First and second innings:

When I was playing, cricket was my life, during those years my focus was on cricket…..my family supported me but things have changed. I don’t have to think about cricket only when I speak to u (Rajdeep) of course yes…I still love it. First innings of life was chasing my dreams second innings is giving something back to the community…..something constructive.

Initiatives for poor and society:

Some initiatives: Encouraging children from slums to educate and show brighter side of love, then lighting as many houses as possible where there is no electricity and life is dark….as many solar lights in their villages…so it is all about satisfaction.

Who is next Sachin Tendulkar?

-I don’t like comparisons. I always wanted to be Sachin Tendulkar.

Who will win the World Cup?

-The way India is playing, I am so impressed the team is playing. We are bowling well, fielding well and we are playing consistently well. I will give full credit to our team. India will win the World Cup.

What is your fitness mantra?

– It is good to be active, to be involved in outer activity. I don’t diet. I do go to the gym. Health is wealth.
