JUNE 10- Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Monday turned a well-wisher of BJP president Rajnath Singh and veteran party leader L.K. Advani as he launched yet another attack on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi a day after the latter’s appointment as the party’s campaign committee head.
Speaking to Headlines Today, Singh said, “Modi is a decisive figure. He is like dictators of 1930s in Europe, like Mussolini and Hitler. We will expose his development record.”
Exploiting the divide in the BJP over heading the party’s campaign for 2014 general election, the Congress leader said, “Modi doesn’t respect people who promote him. Look what he did to Advani. He will do the same to Rajnath. I caution Rajnath.”
Singh refused to draw a comparison between Modi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, saying, “It is not a straight fight between Rahul and Modi… We will expose Modi. His claims are untrue.”
“We don’t take Narendra Modi seriously. We fight elections on ideologies and not individuals,” he said.
Meanwhile, reacting to the Congress leader’s jibes at Modi, senior BJP leader Balbir Punj said it was not expected of the leader used to making controversial statements.
“For Digvijaya Singh, Osama is Osama-ji and Baba Ramdev is a thug. So it is not surprising he uses derogatory words for Narendra Modi,” Punj said.
