LONDON, July 6 – The sound of the Malaysian kompang and Chinese drum, as well as the bunga manggar, greeted the Prime Ministers of Malaysia and Britain as they arrived separately for the groundbreaking of the Battersea Power Station project in southwest London on Thursday.

Both Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and David Cameron were seen in a casual mood at the site of the iconic development project and after a bilateral meeting at a part of the Battersea pavillion.

To this, Najib said the key to it all was that, Malaysia and the UK were partners for prosperity.

“If we work together, East and West, Muslim and non-Muslim countries, it will be a good example to others,” he added.

Both Prime Ministers were then ushered to the rooftop of the gallery which had a splendid view of the power station and were briefed on the project by the Chief Executive of Battersea Power Station Development Company, Rob Tincknell.

This was followed by lunch to commemorate the groundbreaking with a very impressive speech by Najib.

Among the dignitaries present were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, Malaysian Ambassador to the UK Datuk Zakaria Sulong, the Land Public Transport Commission chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, former Sime Darby chairman Tun Musa Hitam, as well as his successor, Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.
