ALOR SETAR, July 8 – The Kedah Regional Development Authority (Keda) has been urged to intensify house construction under the Housing Aid Programme (PBR) to help the poor residents in rural areas own homes.
Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir said Keda’s experience in developing rural areas by building houses and settlements for the poor can help expedite the government’s efforts to overcome the housing issue among the group.
“I put this hope on Keda to work harder to develop the state and help the state government fulfill Barisan Nasional’s (BN) promise during the last general election,” he said.
He was speaking at the Keda Excellent Service Award ceremony and dinner function, here last night.
Besides housing, Keda also needs to implement programmes on skills and training, career and economy to increase the income of the poor and free them from poverty.
Mukhriz also said that Keda Small and Medium Industry also needs a new approach, while agriculture and rehabilitation of neglected land is developed more comprehensively.
