Get approval from Besut OCPD to hold Ceramah -IGP

BESUT, July 11- Political parties should get police approval to hold rallies in the Kuala Besut state by-election, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

“Besut OCPD will facilitate you. But apply first to enable us to make security arrangements to ensure the safety of the speakers and the spectators. We do not want to see clashes between two rival camps,” he said.

khalidSpeaking to reporters after attending a briefing at the Besut Police District Headquarters here today, he said the police were ready for any eventuality during the by-election campaign and polling.

“We have made security arrangements to ensure smooth running of the nomination, early voting, the campaign period and polling,” he said without disclosing the number of police personnel mobilised for the by-election.

The seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent assemblyman Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar of the Barisan Nasional on June 26 due to lung cancer.

Commenting on the proposed legislation to replace the Emergency Ordinance (EO) 1969, which was repealed in 2011, Khalid said the new law was aimed at prioritising public safety and harmony.
