KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 – The police have arrested two more staff of a news portal over a report allegedly linking the Conference of Rulers to the issue of the proposed implementation of the hudud law in PAS-led Kelantan, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

He said they were picked up at about 11 am today.

“@PDRM confirms the arrest at 11 am of two more staff of TMI (The Malaysian Insider) to assist in investigations. Any activity of a seditious nature will not be tolerated,” he said on his official Twitter account.

The arrest of the two staff brings to five the number of TMI staff held over the matter.

Three TMI staff were arrested at their office in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya, yesterday over the recent report which is alleged to have been of a seditious nature.

The Kelantan Legislative Assembly has approved the Syariah Criminal Code (II) (1993) 2015 Enactment to pave the way for the implementation of the hudud law in the state.

However, amendments must be approved to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 and Article 76A (1) of the Federal Constitution in the Dewan Rakyat before Kelantan can implement the hudud law.

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has served notice to Parliament on two proposed private member’s bills to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat to allow Kelantan to implement the hudud law.
