KUALA LUMPUR, July 24- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Tuesday distributed “bubur lambuk” (porridge) to the public at Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru here in conjunction with the Ramadan fasting month.
The popular ‘Kampung Baru Bubur Lambuk’ is a contribution from Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, and the event coincided with Najib’s 60th birthday Tuesday.
The prime minister earlier performed the ‘Asar’ prayers with a congregation, with the prayers led by the imam of the mosque, Muhd Afiq Masron.
The imam prayed for the good health and well-being of the prime minister and for him to be able to carry out his tasks well.
The mosque chairman, Datuk Idris Shaari Mat Aris, told reporters the ‘bubur lambuk’ had been an annual personal contribution of the prime minister over the past six to seven years and that about 5,000 packets of the porridge were distributed today.
“Every year, the prime minister has been contributing 100 pots, but this year he contributed 140 pots,” he said, adding that the porridge was cooked on a ‘gotong royong’ (community self-help) basis.
