KUALA LUMPUR, July 29- The Malaysian Government hopes the conflict in Egypt will be resolved peacefully, and has urged all parties to refrain from using violence.
According to a foreign ministry statement today, Malaysia expressed deep concern on the situation in Egypt, which had taken many lives and injured thousands.
“Malaysia is of the view that the authorities in Egypt need to hold serious dialogue with all interested parties to find a unifying path and formulate an effective and sustainable solution to resolve the issue,” it said.
The tense political situation in Egypt, followed the overthrow of President Mohammed Morsi on July 3, by the country’s military.
Since that day, prolonged demostrations by both supporters and opponents of Morsi led to the killing of 120 Morsi supporters yesterday, and more than 4,500 others injured in a shooting incident against pro-Morsi demonstrators, according to international media.
Meanwhile, the ministry has confirmed that to date, all Malaysian citizens in that country were safe.
However, they have been asked to continue to adhere to security guidelines issued by the Malaysian Embassy in Cairo, and the local authorities.
“Malaysians have been reminded not to approach conflict areas and not to participate in any demonstration.
“Wisma Putra will continue to monitor the situation in Egypt to ensure the safety of Malaysians there,” said the statement.
