KUDAT, July 29- Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri (photo) on Sunday reiterated the Federal government’s commitment to ensure Sabah’s sovereignty, security and safety.
Abdul Rahim said though the intrusion by terrorists in Lahad Datu was thwarted, the Malaysian Armed Forces and the relevant agencies for security would continue to be on the alert to avert any eventualities.
He said the people of Sabah must however, cooperate with the security forces by providing information of any possible intrusion by outsiders.
“People must be the eyes and ears of the security forces to ensure intruders would not have a free passage into the country. The concept of a holistic defence approach needs the cooperation from all so as to be the wall of defence for intruders,” he said at a ‘Rahmat Ramadahan’ function at the Landung Ayang Kudat Mosque, near here.
During the function, he added out Ramadhan assistance to about 350 needy people and 11 wheel chairs to people with special needs.
He said as an effort to strengthen security in Sabah, the government had set up the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) and the Eastern Sabah Safety Zone (ESSZONE) to take charge of the state’s eastern sea border and coastal areas.
