NEW DELHI, Aug 14- All vital installations in India’s national capital were put on high alert in the wake of intelligence inputs of terror attacks in the run-up to Independence Day on Aug 15.
Delhi police said the Indian capital’s Metro Railway system was vulnerable to terror strikes and all necessary measures have been taken to secure it, Xinhua news agency reported.
“We have asked all beat officers to ensure that no vehicles are parked in Metro parking lots on Aug 14 and 15. We are, however, not asking Delhi Metro to shut down any of the stations,” Anil Shukla, head of Delhi Police’s Traffic Department, told the media.
“Goods vehicles will also not be permitted at certain places,” he added.
Sources say Delhi police has deployed some 50,000 personnel to secure vital installations in New Delhi particularly near the Red Fort where Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address the nation on Thursday.
