SEPT 24- Microsoft is reportedly set to unveil an improved version of its Surface tablet after the older model failed to make a dent in the tablet market dominated by Apple and Android powered systems.

microsoft-ces-boothThe company had introduced the first generation of its Surface tablet in October last year but reported tablet revenues of just 853 million dollars in June by selling 9,00,000 units while Apple, by comparison, sold around 34 million iPads in first half of 2013.

However, analysts believe that the new Surface tablet will be an improved version of the older model and give the company another chance to hold on the tablet industry.

Analyst and consultant with Enderle Group, Rob Enderle expected the new tablets to be much improved and said that the new release should be better than the first one, News24 reports.

Enderle explained that the first version was too heavy, too expensive and had poor battery life, and the upgraded Surface Pro lacked a key element, the Outlook email program.

According to the report, experts like Roger Kay at Endpoint Technologies Associates, believes that Microsoft’s strategy is muddled and the company looking at ‘high-mobility’ should rather focus to build momentum with its acquisition of Nokia’s phone business, and extend that into tablets.

Kay added that the ‘high-mobility’ and that form factor are up for grabs between Apple and Google and perhaps Microsoft, but Microsoft will be a distant third, the report said.
