Kuala Lumpur, Nov 20- MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel has called for a clean and transparent election when choosing the party’s three vice-presidents and 23 central working committee (CWC) members on Nov 30.

He said this would indicate the democratic process of election being carried out in a manner where its integrity was safeguarded, thus reflecting the party’s maturity.

“I will not tolerate money politics. This is corrupt practice. We do not want corrupt practices in the election. We want a clean contest,” he said in a statement to Bernama Tuesday.

Palanivel, who is also natural resources and environment minister, is currently attending a climate change conference in Poland. The conference ends on Friday.

He urged the 1,500 delegates to exercise wisdom in choosing the right candidate for the respective posts. “Delegates should not make a wrong decision or waste their votes.

Make the right choice, and there should not be confusion in the choice.

“We want the best team to run the party. Therefore, delegates should choose leaders with talent, good qualification and political experiences to occupy the posts,” he reasoned.

Two incumbents, Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Datuk M. Saravanan and Perak State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri S. K. Devamany, are among eight candidates contesting the MIC’s three vice-president posts at the MIC General Assembly on Nov 30 in Melaka.

The other candidates are the party’s former vice-president, Datuk S. Sothinathan, former Youth chiefs Datuk S. A. Vigneswaran and Datuk T. Mohan, Johor Baharu division leader Datuk S. Balakrishnan, party treasurer Datuk Jaspal Singh and C. Selvaraja.

Meanwhile, a total of 88 candidates will vie for the 23 seats.
