Petaling Jaya, March  4- MIC has no moral ground or credibility to challenge Hindraf leaders to stand in the Kajang by-election as they have long lost the respect of the Indian community, said Hindraf today.

Hindraf secretary-general P Ramesh said that the Indian community despises MIC as the party had neglected the community’s welfare for the past 57 years. He said basically Umno was riding on a ‘dead horse’.

“It will be a waste of time and effort for them to throw their dare to Hindraf as it is very clear that even Barisan Nasional (BN) had no confidence in MIC when it signed the MoU with us.”

“All these challenges and dares by MIC personalities are a futile attempt to show their master that they are still relevant.

“It is very clear that the abandonment of the Indian community after the GE12 saw a reprisal in GE13 after the Hindraf MoU with BN, and even that will be extinguished forever since Hindraf walked out from the government,” said Ramesh in the statement.

Ramesh said other Indian political parties affiliated with BN do not have the will or courage to address the impending issues of the poor Indian community in a constructive manner.

He defended that there has never been an inclination for Hindraf to assume any political role during its short tenure in the government but merely to identify and improve the various socio-economic issues faced by the Indians.

Yesterday, former MIC Youth information chief S Subramaniam challenged former deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Hindraf chairman P Waythamoorthy to contest in the Kajang by-election to prove that he still has the support of the Malaysian Indian community.

Waythamoorthy resigned from all government posts in February due to his dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, who he claimed had failed to honour the Hindraf-BN MoU which was signed just before the last general election.
