Gandhi Nagar (Gujerat), May 16 – These photos show Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Prime Ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, taking blessings from his mother Heeraben (R) today at his brother’s residence in Gandhinagar, India, after the announcement that the BJP has won the majority of seats in Indian elections.
The Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, led by party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has won an absolute majority in India’s parliamentary polls.
As at midnight BJP secured 283 seats on its own and a total of 334 seats for its NDA (National Democratic Alliance) coalition.
Congress secured only 46 seats on its own and the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) coalition secured 61 seats.
Other parties outside NDA and UPA secured 148 seats.
Jayalalithaa’s AIDMK secured 37 seats in Tamil Nadu, emerging as the 3rd largest party in India.
