New Delhi, July 17 – Taiwanese chipset maker MediaTek has announced its new MT6732 LTE smartphone SoC, which is its first octa-core 64-bit chipset. Thechipset has been designed of phones costing more than $350 or Rs.21,000 anddevices based on the solution will be commercially available by the end of 2014.
The system on chip (SoC) solution touts LTE capabilities and can drive 2k displays with resolutions of 2,560×1,600 pixels. The MT6732 is an octa-core solution boasting its CorePilot technology, which balances power across all cores for the best possible performance.
It has a clock speed of up to 2.2GHz, with eight ARM Cortex A53 cores. It supports 120Hz mobile displays with response time enhancement technology and MediaTek ClearMotion.
Dual-Channel LPDDR3 memory clocked at 933MHz is also supported. The chipset also supports 480p slow motion video at 1080p something, which we have already started seeing on smartphones.
As for connectivity, it supports Rel. 9 Cat. 4 LTE (FDD & TDD), DC-HSPA+, TD-SCDMA, EDGE and dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 4.0 (LE). There is also support for GLONASS, Beidou, ANT+, and multi-mode wireless charging.
Of late, the quad-core and octa-core solutions of MediaTek have gained a lot of popularity with many Chinese OEMs and many local Indian vendors like Micromax and have started powering many low-cost to mid-range smartphones. This new chipset will bolster its growing clout in the chipset industry.
Earlier, the company had announced the MT6732 and MT6752 64-bit SoC’s for low-end and mid-range smartphones. With the MT6795, MediaTek now has a solution to cater to the high-end consumer.
