NEW DELHI, July 18 — Air India and Jet Airways diverted their flights from Ukraine’s conflict zone after the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17. “No Air India’s flights were near the Malaysian aircraft when it crashed,” the Press Information Bureau (PIB) tweeted quoting the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
“No Indians were on board the Malaysian plane,” it added. A total of 283 passengers and 15 crew were on board the Boeing 777-200ER that crashed Thursday in Ukraine near the Russian border while flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. The passengers included 154 people from the Netherlands, 43 from Malaysia, 27 from Australia, 12 from Indonesia and nine from the United Kingdom.
