New Delhi, August 23 – A court in Ahmedabad on Friday admitted the closure report filed by Gujarat Police in a case involving a selfie taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after casting his vote in the last Lok Sabha elections.
The crime branch of Gujarat Police, earlier this month, had given a clean chit to Modi, then the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, in a case of violation of the model code of conduct.
Modi had clicked a picture of himself with his party, the BJP’s lotus symbol, and posted it on Twitter asking for votes on April 30, generating a huge controversy. He had also addressed an impromptu press conference at the polling booth in the Ranip area of Ahmedabad.
The Election Commission had taken a serious note of the violation of the electoral laws, under which no person can display any election matter or address a meeting in a polling booth on the day of election, and ordered filing of FIR against Modi.
