android-lollipopNew Delhi, December 3 – Motorola is updating the Over-The-Air (OTA) update installer on the older Moto G phones ahead of the Android Lollipop update. The installer, bundled by Motorola on the first-gen Moto G phones released in 2013, is required to install OTA updates.

In its changelog, Motorola said, “This is an update to the over-the-air (OTA) installer that downloads system updates. This update is necessary to enable a future upgrade of your device to Android 5.0, Lollipop. It updates the installer on Moto G (1st Gen)… All users with these devices should accept this update.”

If you have the installer on your phone, to update it you can go to the Play store and check its status. If for some reason you don’t have it installed, you can get it from the Play store here. Motorola is already rolling out Lollipop update for the Moto G and Moto X released in 2014. Though not all users have got the update yet.

The company has said that the Moto G and the Moto X released in 2013 will also receive the same update. The Moto E users too will receive the Android Lollipop update in the coming weeks. The company had announced on October 15 that all its existing Moto phones will get the Android Lollipop aka Android 5.0 update.

“Now that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be going to the world with Nexus 6 – a product of some of our own engineering – we are excited to confirm that this latest and greatest Android release will also come to our other devices as part of our ongoing software strategy to provide fast updates to our pure Android experience,” it had said.
