JOHOR BAHARU, January 14 – Thirteen MIC divisions in Johor want veteran MIC leaders to be in a special committee to oversee the re-election of office bearers in MIC as per a request from the Registrar of Societies (ROS).
Gelang Patah MIC division chief S. Kanan G Suppiah who represented the 13 divisions said the initiative was necessary to ensure a clean and transparent election process.
“We suggest a special committee comprising veteran MIC leaders who do not have vested interest to scrutinize the re-election,” he told reporters at Dewan Taman Nesa, Skudai, here today in the presence of Gambir state assemblyman Datuk M.Asojan.
Among veterans suggested by the divisions like MIC Ledang, Kota Tinggi, Sri Gading, Tanjung Piai, Bakri, Parit Sulong and Ayer Hitam, included Datuk K.S Balakrishnan (Johor), Datuk G. Rajoo (Perak) and Datuk Rajapathi (Penang).
On Dec 18, MIC President Datuk Seri G. Palanivel had said that the party would set up a special committee to resolve internal matters and infighting in the party.
On Dec 5, the ROS had ordered the MIC to hold fresh elections for the party’s 23 central working committee members and three vice-president’s within 90 days, following alleged irregularities and breach of the party’s constitution and the Societies Act.
