KERMAN, Iran, March 9 – Head of National Centre for Iranian Carpet Mohammad Baqer Alikhani said Iran is presently exporting carpets to 70 countries, Iran’s IRNA reported. He noted that about US$400 million worth of carpets were exported so far this year.
According to the official, 45 percent of the carpets went to Asian countries, 43 percent to Europe and three percent to other countries. He said despite sanctions programmes are underway to open new markets for the Iranian carpets. He said exports to China and Brazil are underway while studies have been made on such countries as South Africa and Vietnam.
