MELAKA, March 11- The State Assemblyman for Lendu, who was also the Deputy Speaker of the Melaka State Assembly, Datuk Idderis Kassim died of colon cancer at the Hospital Putra, here at about 6.50pm today. Idderis, 66, is survived by his wife Datin Rohani Yunus and two sons Zamran and Zulkarnain.
Zamran, 39, when met by reporters said his father had been admitted to the hospital since Feb 19.
“My late father had been suffering from cancer since 2011 and his condition became critical at about 4.30pm today before the doctors confirmed to family members that he was dead,” he said. He said his late father would be buried at the Ayer Limau Muslim Cemetery at 11am tomorrow.
Meanwhile Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam expressed his sadness and described Idderis’s death as a big loss to the state government and people of Melaka. He said Idderis was highly committed and dedicated when he was serving as an assemblyman and deputy speaker.
“He was popular among the people in his constituency. Let us all pray that Allah would bless his soul,” he said in a statement.
