Kuala Lumpur – MIC Secretary General A.Sakthivel (pic) announced today that all preparations are set for the Presidential Nomination to be held tomorrow Friday 21st August between 4.30pm-6.30pm to elect the 9th President of MIC.
The Presidential Re-Election Committee appointed by The Interim CWC 2009 has so far convened two meetings and a final meeting will be held today to ensure all processes are in place and in line with the Presidential Re-Election Bye Laws.
Nomination forms for the Presidential Re-election were made available to all Branch Chairmen since Thursday 13th August 2015. A total of 2,843 Branch Chairmen are eligible to participate in this Presidential Re-election.
Groups out to disrupt Presidential Nominations
Sakthivel also said that the Interim CWC 2009 is aware there are groups of people, made up of those who are supporting the former President and his purported CWC, have been giving warning and making threats that they plan to cause disruption and to even stop the Presidential Nomination from taking place.
“These groups of people have in fact conducted a parallel illegal Branch Elections and held nominations for the Presidential post on 9th August where the former President was declared return unopposed” Sakthivel pointed out.
MIC Secretary General once again stressed that the Interim CWC 2009 made a decision during their meeting held on 13th February 2015 to adhere and implement all the requests made by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) as per the ROS letter dated 6th February 2015. This decision by the Interim CWC 2009 was further endorsed and ratified by more than 2500 Branch Chairmen during the MIC Branch Chairmen Convention held on 9th August 2015. The High Court on 15thJune delivered the judgment that the ROS letters are in accordance with the powers vested in them as per the Societies act 1966 and that the ROS request for MIC to form an Interim CWC 2009 is lawful.
The Court of Appeal on 13thJuly further upheld this judgment.
“Disciplinary action against those acting against the party”
Sakthivel also warned that the Interim CWC 2009 do not condone the conduct of these groups who do not respect the rule of law. Their actions are simply to create ruckus and to bring bad image and publicity to the Party. MIC is taking all measures and precaution including working with the relevant authorities to safeguard the Party’s interest ensuring the Presidential Nomination runs smoothly, said Sakthivel.
Sakthivel also requested all MIC members to remain calm and not be allured by the claims of these irresponsible groups. Members should refrain from participation in their activities. The Interim CWC 2009 has taken a decision earlier that all activities, gatherings and meetings conducted by these groups are unlawful and illegal. Any member participating in their activities tomorrow will be deemed to have participated in an activity detrimental to the party and will be subject to disciplinary action, Sakthivel warned.
